One of the great parts of living in Silicon Valley is being able to put a face to a famous technology name evey now and then. This week I had the opportunity to do this with one of the biggest and original geek heroes, Steve Wozniak.
Steve was interviewed by Guy Kawasaki at the Commonwealth Club event on Thursday night in Santa Clara in which he discussed growing up in the area, starting Apple computer, designing the Apple II and playing numerous pranks.
The Commonwealth Club recorded the event and should have a podcast up within a couple of weeks, in the meantime here are some other recordings of Steve:
- The San Francisco Chronicle interviews Woz
- Woz at Gnomedex
- An evening with Steve Wozniak at the Computer History Museum.
On the topic of pranks, Guy asked Woz about pranking Steven Colbert on the The Colbert Report. Watching Woz's appearance on the Colbert Report you get a sense of his wit when he turns the tables on Colbert.
Among the other interesting anecdotes from Woz was writing the operating system for the first Apples literally by hand. As in 1s and 0s. I look forward to reading my copy of iWoz for more anecdotes of an interesting, authentic "engineer's engineer" with a sense of humour.
Update: Guy has published his Top 10 Things I Love Most About Woz and there is a video of his interview now online. Thanks for a great interview Guy!
